Spiritual Journeys

“We have indeed sent down signs that make things manifest: and Allah guides whom He wills to a way that is straight.” [Quran 24:46]

The religion one decides to practice is a very personal decision. Islamic holds the position that human beings have been created by God with the attribute of free will. They are free to make their own religious choices, and accountability for their decisions is only to God – not to other human beings. For this reason Islam has had a history of peaceful co-existence with people from other faiths, showing respect for their traditions and ways of life, as commanded in the Quran: “Let there be no compulsion in religion” [Quran 2:256].

In modern times and throughout history, there have been people who have critically analyzed their own beliefs and values. They have had the courage to accept a new way of life and have accepted Islam for a myriad of reasons. They have described their own experiences as “beautiful”, “sublime” and an “awakening”, yet others have been curious about why they accepted a new faith.

This section invites the reader to explore, through real examples, the personal experiences of people who have decided to submit to God through accepting the religion of Islam. In these conversion stories, new Muslims open their hearts to share what they regard as the most beautiful experience in their lives – that of the soul awakening to the voice of truth and reason.
