What is the Quran?

Miracle of Allah and Final Testament to Humankind

“The Qur’an: literally, “that which is often recited.” A web of rhythm and meaning, the words of which throb through Muslim worship and which, at every point in the believer’s life , break surface, sanctifying existence with the scent of eternity.” [Abdul Wadod Shalabi in "Islam - Religion of Life"]

The Qur’an represents the fountainhead of Divine guidance for every Muslim. Its revelation to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and his practical implementation of the revelation, completed God’s blessing for humanity, in providing us with a belief and value system that is valid for all times.

The Qur’an confirms the revelations given to earlier Prophets, though these might not be accessible to us, in the form they were originally revealed. The most sublime poetry in any language, and a rational message that directly appeals to the human heart, have caused this Divine book to move nations and civilizations. It will continue to guide those who turn to God with a sincere heart, for all times.

Muslims often claim that they have the original Qur’an. But it was in the head of Muhammad and he is dead so there is no original. Then Abu Bakr made the first written edition of the Qur’an. One copy was given to Helsa, Muhammad’s widow, for safe keeping. But about 20 years later Uthman did a revision, and burnt all the other Qur’ans including the unaltered Qur’an that Hefsa possessed. why? There was no possiblity of it being corrupted!
Two copies of the Uthman third revision exists in the Topkapi Museum in Turkey and the other in the Al-Majid Al-Kaberrd in Yemen. But yet these are kept under lock and key. If Muslims are so sure that even the third eidition of the Qur’an has not been alter, then why are photo copies of these two Qur’an not made available to the public?

If the Qur’an is eternal, and Allah is eternal, then doesn’t Islam have two eternal?

    • rpre says:

So, more than one thing cannot be eternal in order for a religion to be valid?

    • rpre says:

Maybe the impression that you have is that if the Quran is eternal then that means we, as muslims, worship it? Allah created the Quran, He is the only one that we worship.
We also believe that our life after death is eternal, but that does not make Allah any less worthy of our worship, as His eternal nature is not alone what makes Him worthy of our worship, so I guess I’m not sure what your point (or perhaps criticism?) referred to when you mentioned the enternal characteristic of the Quran alongside the eternal characteristic of Allah.
