Who Was Jesus According to Jesus?

By Imam Shabir Ally

The Quran tells us a lot of wonderful things about Jesus. As a result, believers in the Quran love Jesus, honor him, and believe in him. In fact, no Muslim can be a Muslim unless he or she believes in Jesus, on whom be peace.

The Quran says that Jesus was born of a virgin, that he spoke while he was still only a baby, that he healed the blind and the leper by God’s leave, and that he raised the dead by God’s leave.

What then is the significance of these miracles? First, the virgin birth. God demonstrates his power to create in every way. God created everyone we know from a man and a woman. But how about Adam, on whom be peace? God created him from neither a man nor a woman. And Eve from only a man, but not a woman. And, finally, to complete the picture, God created Jesus from a woman, but not a man.

What about the other miracles?

These were to show that Jesus was not acting on his own behalf, but that he was backed by God. The Quran specifies that these miracles were performed by God’s leave. This may be compared to the Book of Acts in the Bible, chapter 2, verse 22, where it says that the miracles were done by God to show that he approved of Jesus. Also, note that Jesus himself is recorded in the Gospel of John to have said, “I can do nothing of my own authority” (5:30). The miracles, therefore, were done not by his own authority, but by God’s authority.

What did Jesus teach?

The Quran tells us that Jesus came to teach the same basic message which was taught by previous prophets from God—that we must shun every false god and worship only the one true God. Jesus taught that he is the servant and messenger of that one true God, the God of Abraham. These Quranic teachings can be compared with the Bible ( Mark 10:18; Matthew 26:39; John 14:28, 17:3, and 20:17) where Jesus teaches that the one he worshipped is the only true God. See also Matthew 12:18; Acts 3:13, and 4:27 where we find that his disciples knew him as Servant of God.

The Quran tells us that some of the Israelites rejected Jesus, and conspired to kill him, but God rescued Jesus and raised him to Himself. God will cause Jesus to descend again, at which time Jesus will confirm his true teachings and everyone will believe in him as he is and as the Quran teaches about him.

Jesus is the Messiah. He is a word from God, and a spirit from Him. He is honored in this world and in the hereafter, and he is one of those brought nearest to God.

Jesus was a man who spoke the truth which he heard from God. This can be compared with the Gospel where, according to John, Jesus says to the Israelites: “You are determined to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God” (John 8:40).

What about all the numerous quoates from Jesus(pbuh) stating that he is the son of God and the many times he called God his father. And especially when he was baptized and God stated “Look also, there was a voice from the heavens that said ‘This is my son the beloved whom i have approved.’ “-Matthew 3:17 (New world Translation of the Holy Scriptures)

In the Bible, God refers to MANY prophets by “SON” and they call him “FATHER”.

    • El-fulaty says:

‘…for as many that believeth in Him for they are the children of God’. this means that the word ‘Son’ literally signifies closeness to God due to obedience to Him. By that definition you could be sons and daughters of God, then why not Jesus Christ. Christians today call God as Father. Why then take it differently with Jesus. Jesus testifies Himself to be Servant of God just as all other Prophets.

it is the same the way christians call God father in the same respects. the only difference is that jesus (pbuh)is considered the only beggotten son because he was Gods first creation. in the bible it refers to jesus heavenly life before he was born as a human, he had a spirit body in heaven. and was sent down to earth. and through him and for him all other things were created, in the bible Jesus is considered as Gods Master worker.

“13 Moreover, no man has ascended into heaven but he that descended from heaven, the Son of man. 14 And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so the Son of man must be lifted up, 15 that everyone believing in him may have everlasting life.

16 “For God loved the world so much that he gave his only-begotten Son, in order that everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent forth his Son into the world, not for him to judge the world, but for the world to be saved through him. 18 He that exercises faith in him is not to be judged. He that does not exercise faith has been judged already, because he has not exercised faith in the name of the only-begotten Son of God. “-john 3:13-17

First, God create men with brain-sense, you believe something because our brain is functioning. Brain damage or when we don’t use our brain,we will not be able to accept, or understanding the message from God
second,if we use our brain we will understand what the message was mention on the gospel above, I encourage you to read again and again until you understand the meaning, put away first what you think about Jesus peace be upon him, try to understand what he said, repeat again mark 10/18, matthew 26/39 ,john 14/18 ,17/3,20/17, matthew 12/18,and acts 3/13,4/27. and do not present something that not anywhere sources told us meaning it is not com from any Holy Book.
The third, the name of Chris came from Christos-meaning anointed or messaya, not even his name but the title, so who ever follower be called Christian. Now if someone ask what the religion Jesus brought?no answer, the only can answer is the last revelation, the Holy Qurán, telling us that from Adam to last Prophet claim that their religion are the same called “Islam” and the followers called “Muslim” meaning surrender to what ever GOD commending, that why Prophet Abraham peace be up on him said in Holy Quran “I am not Judaism or Christianity but I am a Muslim,.

There are too many different Bibles, NIV, King James, etc…… First you must look at the history of who all actually wrote the bible. if you look at your grandparents bible and compare the same version to a modern bible, the note section section is three times bigger today. Why some bibles leave out books wile other don’t. Who actually first allowed the very first publishing to the common people?

This is not a complete story of Jesus. The questions remains: Who is Jesus in the Quran? Why his people rejected him and wanted to kill him? Why did his apostles asked for a dinner table (Last Supper)? What does the Word “Al Massiah” “??????” in the Quran means? And how did he became the son of God from the Muslim perspective of history?

  4. Shalom! May I know, How Important is the TORAH, NEVIIM and KETUVIM or TANAKH for the Muslims? Todah Rabah!

  5. Jesus claimed to be God, accepted worship as God, and was clearly proclaimed in the New Testament of the Bible as dying and rising from the dead. Yes, He called Himself a prophet, but not only a prophet. He declared Himself to be the only way to God (John 14:6). Peter's sermon in Acts 4 confirms that there is no other name under heaven through which we can be saved (including the Hebrew patriarchs or other prophets).

Jesus was present at creation and upholds all things by the Word of His power (John 1:3, 10; Hebrews 1:1-3). To deny His deity and to claim that He did not die on the cross is to undermine the very essence of Christianity. There is no compatibility between Christianity and Islam.

Please beware of thinking that Jesus would approve of Islam. He would not, and He does not. He is the only risen Savior. We will all bow before Him one day and confess that He is Lord. Philippians 2:11-13.

  6. Dariush Rose says:

    Hebrews Chapter 1
1 In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways,
2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe.
3 The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.
4 So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.
5 For to which of the angels did God ever say, "You are my Son; today I have become your Father " ? Or again, "I will be his Father, and he will be my Son"?

    Isaiah Chapter 7
14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.
